Plastic Waste Containers: 2-Wheel vs. 4-Wheel – Types, Volumes and Standards

Selecting the right plastic waste container is not simply a question of price – it starts with the application. Whether a 120-litre plastic bin for a single household or a 1,100-litre large-volume container for an industrial complex: the system chosen determines logistics, vehicle technology and operating costs for years to come. The technical drawings and exact dimensions on this page help specifiers, fleet managers and procurement teams make well-informed decisions from the outset.

2-Wheel Plastic Waste Containers – Compact and Proven

2-wheel plastic waste containers are tipped via two rear wheels into the collection vehicle's loading mechanism. They represent the most widely used container type in municipal household waste collection. Standard volumes are 60 l, 80 l, 120 l, 140 l, 180 l and 240 litres. The 120-litre plastic bin is designed for one- to two-person households with a fortnightly collection cycle. The 240-litre version is the standard size for multi-person households and small commercial premises. Both are emptied automatically via a comb-bar or pin lifting device – no manual lifting required. All Weber 2-wheel bins are manufactured to EN 840 and feature UV-stabilised, fully recyclable polyethylene walls for long service life in all weather conditions.

4-Wheel Large Plastic Waste Containers – High Capacity, High Efficiency

4-wheel plastic waste containers stand on four swivel castors and are pushed rather than pulled. Emptying is carried out via a standardised comb-lifting bar on side-loader or rear-loader vehicles, which automatically lifts and empties the container. Available volumes are 660 litres, 770 litres and 1,100 litres. These containers are used wherever significant waste volumes arise: residential complexes, hotels, supermarkets, hospitals, production facilities and event venues. The 1,100-litre plastic waste container carries up to 440 kg (standard) or 500 kg (heavy-duty version) in accordance with EN 840 Part 3.

Lid-in-Lid (LiL) Plastic Bins – Reducing Contamination

The Lid-in-Lid variant integrates a smaller inner aperture lid within the main lid of the plastic waste container, reducing the entry opening to discourage the disposal of bulky or incorrect waste. Weber offers this design for the 660-litre, 770-litre and 1,100-litre models. The exact aperture dimensions are shown in the technical drawings above.

Dimensions of Plastic Waste Containers – What the Drawings Show

Each technical drawing on this page provides the three critical external dimensions: overall height (H), overall depth (D) and overall width (W), all given in millimetres. The drawings also illustrate axle clearance, lid overhang, wheel diameter and the position of the lifting bar notch – data essential for vehicle compatibility checks and site-planning calculations. Specifying the correct plastic waste container means verifying not only volume but also footprint against available space on the collection route, in the bin store or on the waste platform. Weber's complete range of plastic mobile waste containers – from the compact 60-litre 2-wheel bin to the heavy-duty 1,100-litre flat-lid large container – is manufactured at the Haan plant in Germany using injection-moulded, high-density polyethylene (HDPE) to EN 840 standards.
